At the very beginning you can start selling online without registering a business – as part of unregistered activity.
But there comes a moment when opening a business becomes mandatory.
In this article, we explain exactly when you need to register your business, what it means, and what’s worth remembering.
As long as your gross monthly revenue doesn’t exceed 3499.50 PLN (that’s 75% of minimum wage in 2025), you can legally run your business as a private person, without a company.
But if in a given month you go over this threshold — you have 7 days to register your business in CEIDG.
It's a simple and totally free process you can complete without even leaving your house:
You go to biznes.gov.pl.
You fill out the form online.
You choose the type of taxation, provide your contact info, and your PKD (which basically means what you do).
You get your NIP and REGON number.
Registration doesn’t take more than a couple of minutes.
To register your own business, you need to be at least 18 years old.
If you're 16–17 years old, in theory you can start a business – but only with permission from your parent and the court (the process might take longer).
If you're under 18, the easiest solution is to open a business with your parent or guardian and run it together.
After starting your business:
you can run things on a bigger scale, with no income limits,
you have to keep records (like bookkeeping),
you need to pay health insurance and do monthly or quarterly settlements.
for the first 6 months you don't pay social contributions to ZUS,
you only pay the health insurance (the amount depends on your taxation form).
Example monthly costs at the start:
Health insurance: from around 380 PLN (depending on your taxation form),
Bookkeeping (optional): from 150 to 400 PLN (it depends on the accounting office).
Total: around 500–1300 PLN per month for a small business.
You need to register your company as soon as your monthly income goes over 3499.50 zł.
You then have 7 days to register with CEIDG.
Setting up a company is free and fast – and thanks to the startup relief, running costs at the beginning are really low.
If you’re planning to grow your shop on EcomFly – this is the first step that gives you more freedom and the chance to scale up.
